Schmidt Chair of Clinical Oncology, The Bobst International Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY Sir Murray Brennan is a highly respected physician, researcher, teacher, and mentor, in surgical oncology and a very proud alumnus of the University of Otago. Murray served as President of AUOA form 2008 to 2012 and his inspirational leadership, pragmatic approach to solving problems, and his ‘no nonsense’ style of management were instrumental in establishing AUOA as a major fund raising entity for the University of Otago in the United States-- AUOA allocated more than US$2M in grants to the University of Otago during Murray’s term as President. Murray is an outstanding yet humble individual and a highly respected surgeon and global thought leader in oncology, and a proud Kiwi. Murray’s loyalty, service, and dedication to supporting the University of Otago were recognized by the University when Sir David Skegg awarded Murray the Distinguished Alumni Service Medal at an event at the New Zealand Embassy in Washington DC in 2010. He was recognized by KEA in 2014 when he won the World Class NZ Award in Life Sciences. But it is Murray’s amazing contribution to the world of medicine and the lives of scores of people that has resulted in the Queen recognizing him in her New Year’s Honors list as a Knight Grand Companion of the NZ Order of Merit for his contributions to medicine. Sir Murray Brennan is one of our greatest and most highly respected Otago Alumni.
