With the help of the funding from the Otago Alumni, I was able to complete a semester at the Carlson School of Management in Minnesota. Through this programme, I took two management classes and one marketing class to go towards by Bachelor of Commerce.
These papers were some of the best classes that I have completed throughout my degree. I thoroughly enjoyed the culture of classes, where students were encouraged to participate and gained extra marks for doing so. I also found the papers, particularly Marketing Strategy and Entrepreneurship, to be incredibly helpful in terms of moving forward with my studies and future career. I feel I learnt many skills specific to my degree, as well as important life lessons that will assist me in any job I may have.
Apart from academics, the exchange really broadened my views of the world. Through meeting many American students, as well as many international students from all around the world, I feel that I learnt so much about other cultures. However, the biggest surprise to me was how much more I appreciated New Zealand culture and our country while being overseas. The number of people who said they wished to visit New Zealand made me realise how special our country is.
Thank you so much to all members of the Alumni, whose generosity has allowed me to experience an incredible and unforgettable exchange in Minnesota. Your donations have given me life skills, knowledge, and some amazing memories.
